CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate change is currently a heated topic of debate in the United States, especially in the state of Montana. A common phrase in Montana is “If you don`t like the weather, just wait five minutes and it will be different”. It is common for the weather to change many times in a day and there are not necessarily set seasons because any type of weather can happen at any time of the year. However, with the growing concern of climate change, is Montana having more drastic changes in climate? and do we need to take more precaution?
Last summer in Montana we had very large portions of the state burning up in forest fires. This winter, some towns have recorded up to 80ªF difference in temperature within a day. These occurrences have not been typical to this extent in Montana and are just a few examples of climate change signs in Montana. Yet, many people do not view the examples as signs of climate change. Until more people start to see that these natural changes are more extreme than typical Montana behavior, the beautiful lakes, rivers and streams will eventually disappear, and the forest will continue to be untreated, leaving them vulnerable to start up in flames uncontrollably. At this rate Montana will lose much of its beauty and resources that so many people take for granted, unless more people start taking care of our environment to reduce climate change.
